Druid
Druids are the keepers of the old ways - priests, healers, and lorekeepers who draw their power from the living world itself. They stand apart from mages, who study arcana as an abstract force, and from temple clergy, who serve named gods through ritual and prayer. A druid's authority comes from the land: the turning of the seasons, the pull of the tides, the slow patience of stone, and the fierce indifference of the storm. They listen where others speak, and what the world tells them shapes a magic that is ancient, instinctive, and deeply tied to the balance of all living things.
Nature Magic
A druid's magic blurs the line between the arcane and the physical. They can coax growth from barren soil, call wind and rain, speak with beasts, and mend wounds with a touch that channels the regenerative force of nature itself. Unlike mages, who learn their spells from books and formulae, druids learn through communion - long seasons spent in wild places, observing the patterns of growth and decay until those patterns become second nature. Their spell repertoire is smaller than a mage's but uniquely versatile, blending nature-based magic with the ability to fight in close quarters when the situation demands it.
Druids are also the foremost healers and herbalists in Aedelore. They know which roots ease fever, which mosses stop bleeding, and which mushrooms should never be touched. This knowledge is passed down through oral tradition - druids have long been wary of committing their teachings to written form, believing that wisdom separated from lived experience becomes hollow and dangerous.
Place in the World
Druids are most commonly found in the wilder regions of Aedelore, serving as spiritual leaders and practical authorities in communities that live close to the land. They mediate disputes, tend the sick, read the signs that warn of coming hardship, and perform the seasonal rites that mark the rhythm of rural life. Many follow Nature's Embrace, the Moon Elf faith devoted to Tiamat, the Steadfast God of Earth, or the Earthsong Covenant practised by the halflings. Among the human communities of Eastwatch, druids once held positions of immense influence - religious leaders, legal authorities, and political advisors whose word carried the weight of the land itself. That influence has faded in the cities, where temples and academies have taken their place, but in the villages and the wild places, a druid's counsel is still sought and respected. When the balance of nature is threatened - by Void corruption, reckless magic, or the greed of those who take more than the land can give - it is the druids who sound the alarm and stand in the way.
