Hunters

📜

Hunter class.webp

Hunters are the eyes and ears of the wild places - trackers, marksmen, and survivors who know the land the way a sailor knows the sea. They move through forest, mountain, and marshland with a quiet confidence that comes from a lifetime spent reading trail signs, predicting weather, and understanding the habits of every creature that walks, flies, or crawls. A hunter does not dominate the wilderness. They belong to it, and that belonging gives them an edge that no amount of training in a courtyard can replicate.

Skills and Tracking

A hunter's primary weapon is the longbow, and the best among them can put an arrow through a gap in armour at distances that make other fighters uneasy. But accuracy alone does not make a hunter. Their real strength lies in what happens before the shot - the hours of patient tracking, the ability to read broken branches and disturbed soil, the instinct for where prey will go before it knows itself. Hunters are skilled in survival, medicine, and the handling of animals. Many travel with a companion - a hound, a hawk, or something less common - trained to work alongside them in the field.

In combat, hunters prefer distance and positioning over direct confrontation. They strike from cover, use terrain to their advantage, and withdraw before an enemy can close the gap. This is not cowardice - it is the pragmatism of someone who has learned that the cleverest fighter is the one still breathing at the end. When forced into close quarters, a hunter can hold their own, but they are at their most dangerous when they choose the ground and the moment.

Place in the World

Hunters come from every corner of Aedelore, shaped by the land they grew up in. Some are woodsmen from the deep forests, others are mountain scouts who guide travellers through treacherous passes, and still others serve as frontier rangers along the borders where settled land gives way to the unknown. Those who follow the Silent Hunt revere the wild itself, maintaining the ecological balance as both predator and protector. Halfling hunters are known for their patience and uncanny stealth, while Moon Elf hunters move through the wilds with a grace that borders on the supernatural. In a world where the roads between cities are long and the things that lurk beyond the firelight are real, a hunter's knowledge of the land is not a luxury - it is the difference between arriving safely and not arriving at all.
