📜
Field observations by Ranger Warden Elara Moonshadow
Classification: Predator
Size: Large
Habitat: Mountains and forests
Threat Level: High
Description
Tawny-coated and silent, mountain lions are ambush predators of supreme skill. They stalk prey through rocky terrain with patience measured in hours, then strike with explosive speed. Solitary and secretive, they are rarely seen.
Behavior
Strictly solitary except during mating. Hunt by stalking and pouncing. Cache large kills and return to feed over several days. Territorial, with ranges spanning many miles.
Ecological Role
Control deer and goat populations in mountainous regions. Their presence keeps prey animals alert and mobile, preventing overgrazing. Carcasses feed scavengers throughout their territory.
