Field observations by Ranger Warden Elara Moonshadow
Classification: Predator
Size: Medium (Large wingspan)
Habitat: Mountains and open country
Threat Level: Low to humans
Description
Ruling the skies above Aedelore, golden eagles soar on thermals with wingspans wider than a man is tall. Their keen eyes spot prey from impossible heights, and their dive speed defies belief.
Behavior
Mate for life, returning to the same nests yearly. Hunt rabbits, marmots, and young deer. Fiercely territorial during breeding season. Will strike at threats near their nests.
Ecological Role
Control populations of small mammals. Nests provide habitat for smaller birds after abandonment. Considered sacred or symbolic by many cultures. Occasionally trained for hunting.
