Elkhorn Stag
Field observations by Ranger Warden Elara Moonshadow
Classification: Herbivore
Size: Very Large
Habitat: Northern forests and tundra
Threat Level: Low to Moderate
Description
Larger than red deer, Elkhorn Stags carry antlers of tremendous size - some spanning wider than a man can stretch his arms. These majestic creatures roam the northern reaches, their breath steaming in cold air.
Behavior
Migratory, following seasonal food sources. Live in large herds for protection. Stags compete fiercely during rut, their antlers clashing in tests of strength. Can be aggressive if approached during this period.
Ecological Role
Keystone species of northern ecosystems. Their grazing shapes vegetation patterns. Provide food for predators and carrion eaters. Antlers collected for tools and trade goods.
