Description

Will-o-Wisps are floating balls of pale light that appear in swamps and other treacherous terrain. Their light is hypnotically attractive, drawing travelers toward dangerous areas-quicksand, deep water, or the lairs of other predators.

Behavior

Unlike most fey, Will-o-Wisps are malevolent, feeding on the fear and death of those they lead astray. They are patient hunters, sometimes following travelers for miles before making their presence known at the worst possible moment.

Combat

Will-o-Wisps are nearly impossible to harm with physical weapons-they can become incorporeal at will. Magic can affect them, but their ability to blink in and out of visibility makes targeting difficult. The safest approach is to ignore them entirely and navigate by other means.

Lore

Some believe Will-o-Wisps are the souls of those who died lost in swamps, cursed to lead others to the same fate. Others claim they are servants of the Void, weakening the boundary through the deaths they cause.
