Cave Bear

📜

Type: Giant predator
Habitat: Mountain caves, deep forests
Threat Level: High

Description

Cave Bears are enormous ursines, nearly twice the size of common bears. Their thick fur is typically dark brown or black, and their claws can be as long as daggers. Despite their size, they move with surprising speed when provoked.

Behavior

Cave Bears are solitary and territorial. They spend most of their lives in or near their cave lairs, emerging to hunt or forage. They are not naturally aggressive toward humanoids but will attack if surprised, cornered, or if their cubs are threatened.

Combat

A Cave Bear is one of the most dangerous natural creatures in Aedelore. Their thick hide turns aside all but the heaviest weapons, and a single swipe of their claws can disembowel an armored warrior. The safest strategy is avoidance; if combat is unavoidable, multiple attackers focusing on the same target are essential.

Lore

Dwarves have a particular respect for Cave Bears, seeing in them a reflection of their own stubbornness and strength. Some Dwarven clans consider killing a Cave Bear a rite of passage, while others view them as sacred guardians of the deep places.
