PART 1: CORE SYSTEM
1.1 Philosophy
Aedelore uses a D20-based system. The Dungeon Master (DM) always has the final say.
Focus on: Fast, intuitive mechanics; Creative problem-solving; Narrative-driven gameplay; DM flexibility.
1.2 The Dice System
Modifier: Your points are your modifier. 3 points in a skill = +3 on that roll.
Core Roll: 1D20 + modifier vs DC (Difficulty Class). Meet or beat the DC = success.
Natural 20: Automatic success + critical hit (double damage dice in combat).
Natural 1: Automatic failure + possible negative consequence.
Difficulty Classes (DC):
Trivial = DC 5
Easy = DC 10
Normal = DC 13
Hard = DC 16
Very Hard = DC 19
Nearly Impossible = DC 22
1.3 Checks
Simple Check: 1D20 + Attribute modifier vs DC
Skill Check: 1D20 + Skill modifier vs DC. Usually the DM picks either an attribute or a skill. Only the DM can decide if stacking is allowed.
Example: Stealth check DC 13: Roll 1D20 + Stealth modifier (+3) = need 10+ on die.
Contested Check: Both parties roll 1D20 + modifier. Higher total wins. On tie: DM decides (usually advantage to defender).
Damage Dice: Damage still uses D6 and D10 dice (not D20). Weapons specify their damage dice.
