Riverside Reed
Agricultural record by Fieldmaster Bram Thornbury
Classification: Wetland Plant
Habitat: Rivers, marshes, and lakeshores
Uses: Crafting material
Description
Tall and flexible, reeds grow in dense stands along every waterway in the realm. They sway in the wind like dancers, their rustling a familiar sound to all who dwell near water. The plants spread rapidly, reclaiming land from lakes and rivers.
Cultivation
Rarely cultivated, as wild stands provide ample supply. If needed, transplant root sections to wet soil. Once established, reeds require no care and spread of their own accord.
Uses
Woven into baskets, mats, and simple furniture. Bundled for roofing material in rural areas. The hollow stems serve as drinking straws and simple musical instruments. Young shoots are edible when boiled.
