Field observations by Ranger Warden Elara Moonshadow
Classification: Omnivore
Size: Very Large
Habitat: Forests and mountains
Threat Level: High
Description
Standing taller than a man when reared on hind legs, the Great Bear commands respect throughout Aedelore. Brown to black in color, these massive creatures possess strength sufficient to kill with a single blow.
Behavior
Solitary except during mating or when mothers raise cubs. Omnivorous - eating berries, fish, insects, and occasionally larger prey. Hibernate through winter in prepared dens. Extremely dangerous when surprised or protecting cubs.
Ecological Role
Apex predator that shapes forest ecology. Spread seeds through droppings. Their fishing activities bring ocean nutrients inland. Abandoned dens provide shelter for smaller animals.
