Void Maw
Type: Void beast
Habitat: Deep caves, abandoned mines, the depths of Ambers Call
Threat Level: High
Description
The Void Maw is a massive, worm-like creature that burrows through earth and stone, leaving tunnels of corrupted matter in its wake. Its body is a cylinder of absolute darkness, and where its head should be is only a circular opening-a maw that consumes everything it touches.
Behavior
Void Maws are drawn to sources of life and heat beneath the earth. They have devastated Dwarven mining operations and are believed to be responsible for several tunnel collapses that were initially blamed on natural causes. They do not seem intelligent in any meaningful sense-they simply consume.
Combat
The hide of a Void Maw is resistant to conventional weapons. Fire and light-based magic can harm them, but their size makes them difficult to kill quickly. The safest approach is to collapse their tunnel and seal them in, though this does not kill them-merely contains them.
Lore
Some scholars believe Void Maws are what remains when an Entropy Weaver partially fails to return to the Void-a fragment of unmaking that has taken on a more stable, if no less dangerous, form.
