Description

This apex predator earned its name from the ridge of thorn-like bone protrusions running from skull to tail. Larger than common lions, the Thornback possesses intelligence that borders on cunning. Its tawny hide bears darker stripes that provide excellent camouflage.

Behavior

Unlike common lions, Thornbacks hunt alone or in mated pairs. They stalk prey for hours before striking. Known to hold grudges against those who escape or wound them, pursuing such individuals across great distances.

Combat Notes

The thorns inject mild paralytic venom - avoid grappling. Exceptional leapers capable of clearing twenty feet. Sensitive hearing makes stealth approaches difficult. Best confronted from elevated positions.
