📜
Bestiary entry by Aldric Shadowmark, Grand Hunters Lodge
Classification: Megafauna
Habitat: Lakes and slow rivers
Threat Level: Low to Moderate
Description
These ancient creatures grow shells wider than wagon wheels, often mistaken for small islands when floating. Moss and plants grow upon their backs, completing the disguise. Their beaked jaws can sever limbs, but they attack only when provoked.
Behavior
Placid herbivores that spend most time floating or basking. Extremely long-lived - some specimens estimated at centuries old. Females come ashore to lay eggs, becoming aggressive during this period.
Combat Notes
Shell essentially impenetrable. Head and limbs vulnerable when extended. Slow on land but surprisingly quick in water. Best strategy is simply avoiding provocation.
