Shadowcat
Type: Stealth predator
Habitat: Dense forests, jungle edges
Threat Level: Moderate
Description
Shadowcats are large felines with fur so dark it seems to absorb light. They are nearly invisible in shadows and possess an uncanny ability to move without making sound. Only their eyes-reflecting light like twin moons-give them away.
Behavior
Shadowcats are ambush predators, preferring to strike from concealment rather than chase prey. They are solitary and territorial, with each cat claiming several square miles of hunting ground. They rarely attack humanoids unless desperate or defending kittens.
Combat
Spotting a Shadowcat before it strikes is the primary challenge. They attack from behind, aiming for the neck. Once revealed, they are dangerous but not invincible-comparable to a large tiger. Bright light sources can prevent them from approaching undetected.
Lore
Elves have a special relationship with Shadowcats, and some rangers of Rivermount have formed bonds with these creatures. A bonded Shadowcat will serve as a loyal companion, though such bonds take years to form and require the cats willing participation.
