Entities of the Void

📜

Beyond Zelgor and his consort Nyxora, other entities dwell within or emerge from the Void. This catalogue, incomplete though it must be, describes the known classifications of Void beings. May this knowledge serve as warning, not invitation.

- From the Bestiary of Darkness, maintained by the Conclave of Wardens across generations of vigilance

The Hierarchy of the Void

Know then that the Void, though it may seem formless chaos, possesses a terrible order. Its denizens exist in a hierarchy of power, from the mindless hunger of the least to the calculating malevolence of the greatest.

The Firstborn: Zelgor and His Court

At the apex stands Zelgor himself, the Harbinger of Shadows, firstborn of the Void and its mightiest champion. Though driven back in the Grand Battle, he remains, waiting in the darkness between stars for the moment when he might return.

Beneath him stands Nyxora, the Shrouded Queen, whom Zelgor created from his own essence to serve as consort and general. Unlike Zelgor, Nyxora has walked Aedelore, has touched its soil and tasted its corruption. Her understanding of mortal weakness makes her perhaps more dangerous than her creator.

Zarathen, the Whisperer in the Void, holds a position apart-neither servant nor equal, but something older, something that existed in the Void before even Zelgor took form. Zarathen does not command armies or seek conquest. He corrupts. He whispers. He was the voice that turned Malcath from king to monster, and countless others before and since.

The Void Lords

Below the Firstborn exist entities of terrible power-not gods, but something close. These Void Lords were once creatures of other realities, consumed and remade by the Void into instruments of its will. Each commands legions of lesser entities, each seeks to expand the Void''s dominion in their own way.

Their names are not spoken aloud, for names have power, and to speak the name of a Void Lord is to draw its attention. The Wardens know these names, guard them, use them only in the most desperate of bindings and banishments.

The Void-Spawned

These are beings that formed spontaneously from the Void itself-not corrupted mortals but creatures of pure nothingness given shape by hunger. They include:

Shadow Stalkers - Predators that exist in the space between shadows, emerging only to feed on the life force of the living. They leave no corpse, only absence.

Void Wraiths - The echoes of souls that were not merely corrupted but entirely consumed by the Void, now serving as scouts and heralds for greater entities.

Entropy Weavers - Entities that exist to unmake, dissolving matter and magic alike into raw nothingness. Where they pass, reality itself grows thin.

The Formless - Masses of pure Void-stuff that have not yet coalesced into specific shapes. They are the most numerous and the least intelligent, but in sufficient numbers, they can overwhelm any defense.

The Void-Touched

Distinct from true Void entities are those mortals who have been corrupted but not entirely consumed. These Void-touched retain their mortal forms but serve the Void''s purposes, often without fully understanding what they have become.

For it is written: the most dangerous servant of darkness is the one who believes they still serve the light. The Void-touched often continue their mortal lives, spreading corruption through word and deed, weakening the Boundary through their very existence.

Some, like Malcath before his final fall, retain enough of their former selves to suffer-to know what they have become and be unable to stop it. These are perhaps the most tragic, and the most dangerous, for their despair feeds the very darkness that consumes them.

A Final Warning

Let none who read this catalogue think themselves prepared to face such entities. Knowledge is the first defense, but it is not sufficient. The Void''s servants are ancient beyond mortal comprehension, patient beyond mortal endurance, and hungry beyond mortal understanding.

When you face the Void, you do not face an enemy. You face the end of all things, given form and purpose. Fight it nonetheless-for what else can those who love the light do?-but never imagine that you fight something that can be truly understood or permanently defeated.

The war is eternal. The best we can do is ensure that we are not the generation in which it is lost.
