Description

Wyverns are large, two-legged flying reptiles with powerful wings and venomous tail stingers. Though often confused with true dragons, they lack front limbs, breath weapons, and the intelligence that defines dragonkind.

Behavior

Wyverns are territorial and aggressive, attacking anything that enters their hunting grounds. They prefer to strike from above, using their talons to grab prey and their tail stingers to inject paralyzing venom. They are smart enough to recognize armed groups as dangerous and may wait for stragglers.

Combat

Fighting a Wyvern requires ranged weapons or the ability to ground it. Once grounded, they are still dangerous but manageable for a prepared group. The tail sting should be avoided at all costs-the venom causes rapid paralysis followed by death if not treated.

Lore

Despite their danger, Wyverns can be domesticated if captured young. The Elves of Rivermount maintain a small force of Wyvern riders, though training one takes decades and bonding requires magical assistance.
